Ingredients

Scale
  • 250g softened butter
  • 275g granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 large eggs
  • 335g all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 180ml milk
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • Pink food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 160°C (320°F) and prepare a 9-inch round cake pan by lightly buttering it and lining the base with parchment paper.
  2. In one bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
  3. In another bowl, cream the softened butter until smooth. Gradually add sugar and vanilla, beating until light and fluffy.
  4. Incorporate eggs one at a time while mixing gently.
  5. Alternately mix in the dry ingredients with milk beginning and ending with flour until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter into three bowls: leave one plain, tint another with pink food coloring, and mix cocoa powder into the last batch with warmed milk.
  7. Layer spoonfuls of each colored batter into the prepared pan and swirl gently with a knife for a marbled effect.
  8. Bake for approximately 50 minutes or until golden brown; check doneness with a skewer.
  9. Cool in the pan for 15–30 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
