  • 1 tbsp vanilla bean paste
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 tbsp Earl Grey tea (for soak)
  • 1/2 tbsp culinary lavender (for soak)
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla bean paste (for soak)
  • 1 tbsp culinary lavender (for frosting)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 8 oz cream cheese (for frosting)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 1 tsp vanilla bean paste (for frosting)
  • purple food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Infuse milk with Earl Grey tea, steeping for about 15 minutes before straining.
  3. Mix dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and lavender.
  4. Cream softened butter and sugar until fluffy; add eggs one at a time and vanilla paste.
  5. Alternately mix in dry ingredients and buttermilk with the infused milk until combined.
  6. Divide batter between pans; bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool completely before frosting.
